1:41 AM Hey all the wonderful HSCCB people out there!:) its your very awesome student conductor priscilla here! aww i think i am gonna write a lot. Firstly, i think this blog is so nice and thankyou all for posting, visiting, tagging and keeping this blog alive:) heee. I believe that band should be fun and fun and fun but there are also certain boundaries. I will make effort to be nicer and more fun BUT, we still gotta do warm ups etc! haha! So yeah, concert is coming up really soon and i cant say we are ready. Junior band, like everyone is saying, you guys are improving a lot. And like what they are saying, brasses, you all are weaker. However, what not everyone is saying, is how you all should improve. (i'm writing this from how i've heard you all play! any seniors or alumni who visits and read this post, please give comment because i'm still learning too:)) Brasses, you need more air and faster air. Only when you have fast air will there be good sound. of course, you all must ensure your embouchure must be right. And, the way to increase your air capacity is so do breathing exercises. However, you can also swim and run to train your air. Besides, you can also do crunches. when you come up to breath out and when you go down you breath in. Out of all these, choose one to do. AND HELLO?! we cant run of swim in the band room and you all dont like crunches! SO LETS JUST SETTLE WITH BREATHING EXCERCISE!:) okie? Woodwinds, you all have relatively enough air, for now. When you go on to higher grade pieces then you all will... need more air. Main band on the other hand, for those who attend band regularly and was taken for prac by miss chang you all are good! but.. we(you know who plus including me) must brush up of the musicality and we must teach our section! I love the saxophone and flute etc etc pick up to C! superb! but do watch out for the rhythm there. And for that part also, niha, must come in on time:)! Everyone is improving and that's good! If you all practice at home then its even better. Some tips for you all during practice, regardless in band of at home. You all must, and i mean must, have good posture. what also means you all have to sit straight. dont slouch(did i spell it right?) cus that will kinda disrupt your air. In addition, also do self warm up before playing anything. Do breathing exercises and tuning! WOW! okay.. i better cut it short uh? CONCERTS! there are several concerts coming up i urge you all to go. i think they are good so yeah. learn from other:) sometimes you can also learn from their mistakes. You need not wait till you make a mistake and then realise its wrong. in addition, since performance is coming up. you all need exposure. i promise you that the feeling on stage is totally different from playing in the band room. Not only the feeling and stress cause from than 800 people are looking at you but also because you will sound different. In that case, your confidence comes in. Whether you playing out or just play very softly so that people dont hear your mistakes will depend on your confidence. Go for more concerts now and see how people behave when they are on stage. Do the band ever talk when they are on stage already? Do they clap when the conductor is coming on stage?(audiences would clap though) so yeah! concerts are as following Attaca showcasing NUS wind sympony alumni 24th july(saturday) singapore conference hall 7pm $12 MJC conbine with another band 25th july (sunday) MJC school hall 2pm $12 singapore poly 1st august (sunday) yong siew toh conservatory of music hall 7pm $10 please go for concerts! tell your section leader if you wanna go:)! The following are reminders! tomorrow(22th july) remember to bring you FULL BAND UNIFORM for photo taking and your TOILET ROLLS your CARTON and from those going for philharmonic concert 15DOLLARS! One band one sound we can do it together! work hard for the concert and continue working hard after the concert. i think i typed many wrong words(i mean spelling) so yeah. sorry:P!
