11:09 PM Hi band, Yesterday was good, but could have been better. The trick to make yourself a better player is to never look down on yourself. Keep having goals and achieve them. Nevermind what others say but to work hard. When you progress, keep progressing and never stop there because as long as you don't give up on yourself but focus, thats when you keep getting better! Remember what Mdm Zaibon said yesterday before practice? Prove to people wrong that you are not what you think they are. So I hope you all, take into consideration about what she said. Because you'll be the one losing out when you only disappoint yourself in the end. Think about the future, about what you want to feel. Think about what comments people will make. A responsible band member includes almost 80 percent of attendance. Committed and hardworking. Listen up, everytime you guys get any criticism or insults... NEVER EVER TAKE IT TO HEART. Never ever be sad and look down on yourself. Keep looking at the bright side and stay optimistic. Because crtics are something that you should act on it and do something about it. Do what? TO IMPROVE YOURSELF AND PROVE TO PEOPLE WRONG. Sometimes, the (harsh) words that people say say about you, are often the words that will motivate you to become better. So my dear band members, never give up. If you say that you are a lousy band member, don't just stay there. Keep working on your weaknesses especially so people will make a good comment about you. The feeling is really good. Because you feel satisfied with what you did. Other than all these, please go for the Paramount Brass Concert. It's good enough that the school are subsidizing money for us and you only have to play 10 dollars. For those who are coming, remember your consent forms and also your 10 dollars tomorrow:-X And for those who are going for Regent Wind Symphony's OPUS V, please please please bring the money tomorrow. I have to confirm the amount of people going for the concert with the band major by latest this week! Oh and please please please bring your instruments home after the exchange this Tuesday and also your March Together scores because we'll be playing it for the SYF filming video which will be our next exchange at Hougang! So I want you all to memorise it in that short period of break you guys will be having after the exchange at Shuqun so that you're not going to trouble yourself and the instructors when you come back for the practices. Remind yourself that when we come back from the break, we only have 3 practices towards our next one at Hougang! So be prepared and don't wait until you guys get scolded by Mr Lim! Don't make your band practices miserable guys! For sec ones especially, who never played this piece before and don't have the score, tell your SLs and get them to photocopy for you. Practice tomorrow, please be in the band room by 12.30pm. Also, be prepared for Monday because there might be a practice too! It's been a rough week for us with the hectic schedule of practices and I know that we are all tired but hang on there!!! (Fareha)

6:00 PM Exchange is coming in 2 weeks and some of you still cannot play, still don't know the notes. You all want Mr Lim to come down and start scolding you all is it? Is that what you all want? Some of you, your attendance are not even fixed. You come down, as and when you like. Treat your CCA like a hotel. Is it? And please don't use band as an excuse why you're stress and tired. CCAs exists because it's going to help you challenge yourself to handle stress, manage your time wisely and become disciplined. We need full commitment and motivated people in the band. Some of you guys, you know who you are, are always skipping the band practices. And then expects a position in the events lined up for the band. You don't even want to work hard or show us the effort by coming down to the practices, then tell me, do you even deserve to perform? Please, band, show some effort. You don't want to let yourself down right, then DO SOMETHING about it. SYF is next year, please wake up, bring yourself up to a better standard. And juniors, you're going to be a senior soon. A new batch is coming in, in 2 plus months. Please don't always depend on your seniors to cover up the mistakes you do. Work Hard. Like I always say, Show to them what you guys are capable of. And prove to them who looked down on us wrong. In every problem, there's always a solution. But it's up to you all which kind of outcome you want to get.

6:33 AM Band practices will resume very soon. Hope you all have been practicing and working very hard on the homework Mr Lim had given.
Don't forget that there will be "Mr Lim's 'Nasi Lemak' challenge" and we are going to have foot drills and marching for the November holidays to prepare a video as a requirement for SYF 2011. You can also check for the updates at the 'Calender' notice board at the back of the band room for the updates. Futher details once band resumes. Thanks! (Fareha) Saturday, September 18, 2010
4:35 AM Please remember to practice at least 20 minutes per day, preferably more. We need a lot of coaching, we all know. But the thing is, you must show to us all that you are willing to learn, willing to work hard. I know you guys find the band practices really boring after the concert but trust me, it's for your own good and the band's. If you can't play, don't and never look down on yourself. Endure the pain of hardwork and persist so that you can succeed in the end. Also, don't forget about the homework Mr Lim had given. Practice hard because we will be tested! Remember to be ready for Mr Lim's Nasi Lemak challenge too! If you want a concert of your own, then show everyone what you've got. Remember, words of encouragement is not enough to motivate you guys. You have to play a part and help yourself too! (Fareha) Saturday, August 28, 2010
6:54 AM combined main band photo:))) jump shot(which pretty failed) (miss chang our beloved conductor) sec3 girl power! (excos)(weilin and friends where were you?!) rehearsal(our jrs) on the way for concert. candid-ness bassoonist! (pris and her grand daughter!)
6:17 AM MORE PHOTOS TO COME PLEASE HOLD ON (family photo? so sad its blur)
(we love miss chang loads)(mr tay too but we didnt get a chance to take photo with him) (I LOVE MY SECTION AND MY LOVELY JRS) HEYY band peeps! priscilla your awesomest student conductor here. Well, concert is over i bet you all had fun! cus i had loads of fun too:D!!!! Although concert is over, we all still have to work hard. Really, the concert was fun but not fantastic. We are not very good i would say. This shall not be a discouragement but rather our motivation to do better and one day have our own concert. Maybe Hai Sing Catholic Concert Band in Concert or something nicer. sorry i cant think of some nice names now. 5:14 AM We did our best, but there are still room for improvements. We all know we didn't practice hard enough, like what Mr Lim had told us. However, it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience for all of us.
It's this amazing feeling that we have in ourselves to perform on stage with an applause and the cheering we got from the audiences. For most of us, it's our very first performance, and for the band, it's our very first concert together(with other bands). BUT it's not the best feeling YET. Hai Sing Band, we have more to come. Sec one orientation next year, SYF 2011, and perhaps, our very own concert. It's been long isn't it? These are the things that you guys have yet to work hard for. And work even harder than the concert we just had with the other schools. We witnessed how the junior band from other schools played. Think about it, are you guys going to work even harder the next time? Do you want to be the batch of band members who finally managed to bring back Viva Musica VII? Do you want to be the batch of band members who gets back the Gold for the next SYF? Ask yourselves. Neverthless, I'm very proud of you guys. Hai Sing Catholic Concert Band, We SHOULD. We MUST. We CAN. We WILL. (Fareha) Friday, August 20, 2010
5:54 PM Spaceship yamato movement 1 Spaceship yamato movement 2 Hi all, the videos above is what Mr Lim had sent me. Please watch it! I think you all know how we sounded like for the past few days and whether you guys are ready or not. Well whatever happens, happens. We don't have a lot of time left for coaching and drilling you guys to be better. All the tutors, the teachers and myself can only do this much, the rest is all up to you to decide. To screw up on stage or to give a good impression of the band, you choose. Do all you've got and don't stop there. Senior band, you all know that you need to use more air. Please do so, because if you don't... the audiences will have you-know... the 'boring' look on their faces, which I'm sure none of you want to see that. Play with confidence. DON'T ALWAYS SAY THAT WE ARE NOT GOING TO DO IT. We can and we will and we must and we should. Don't always get nervous when you are on stage, I know for most of you this is your first time. But if you keep thinking about screwing up, then you will eventually. Focus more at your conductor. If you make mistakes, like i did for Jounetsu Tairiku... Don't shake your heads. Get over it. Move on. And find yourself back in the song. Most importantly, try not to screw up. Plaw and produce a good sound. That's the way. And for the soloists, look at the digital clock if you're scared. It helps that way. For people who are supposed to play the melody, play it louder. Strong and sharp sound. Especially for the brasses in Midnight Rock. Please please please please don't be nervous. You guys did a lot already. You all have put in effort. Though it might not be enough, why do you want to get nervous after so much hardwork? Remember our principal and vice-principal will be there watching and as well as the other audiences! And this Monday, please remember who sits beside you. Arrange your scores. For junior band, arrange your scores according to 1) Hey Jude 2) Midnight rock And for the senior band, 1) Spaceship yamato 2) Jounestu Tairiku LAST WARNING: Remember to photocopy your scores I don't want to see any of you flipping the pages. You SHOULD NOT let the conductor wait for you to prepare yourself. You should already be prepared. Like e.g Movement 1 yamato to movement 2. Make sure all to be put inside your black files not just a piece of paper on the stand. Please also remember to bring full band uniform this coming Tuesday. Along with your ties and your shoes don't forget. YOU'RE REPRESENTING HAI SING CATHOLIC SCHOOL NOT HAI SING CATHOLIC CONCERT BAND. Remember that.
